The Cwmbran Blackball Pool League (Who We Are)
The Cwmbran Blackball Pool League, or the CBPL for short, is a league
set up for pool teams in and around the Cwmbran area. What makes our
league different is that is not run by a committee or a business looking to
make money.  It is run by pool players, people already playing pool in the
area who offer their help completely free of charge, and want a league that
suits them. The CBPL aims to be run in modern and efficient way, but still
maintaining the idea that pool is about having a good time with your mates
down the pub. An idea that has seemed to have been lost by most other
local leagues.  So please read the rest of this page to find out in more
detail what we are all about.
The rules
We play official UK Blackball rules. If you already have a team, thats probably the
rules you are currently playing.  A full copy of the rules can be found on a link at the
bottom of this page.
Structure of the matches
Every match will take place on Wednesday evening at 8:00pm.  The match will consist
of eight games( SIX SINGLES games and TWO DOUBLES games).  Three singles
games followed by a doubles game, then three more singles games and a doubles
game to finish. Your team will need a minimum of five players. Any of the five players
who played in the first four games( three singles and a doubles), can play again in the
second round of games.
We are always looking to
improve. So if you have an
opinion on the web site or
how the league works,
please let us know at the
'contact us' page and we
will discus your idea at
the next meeting.
League meetings will be
held for registration, cup
draws and competition
draws, and from time to
time to discus changes to
the league or rules etc.
Keep your eye on the
latest news section for all
the relevant info.
Meetings
How league points scoring  works
Its simple! The number of frames you win in a match represents the number of
league points your team is awarded, plus the winning team get a bonus point. So
for example. If your team wins a game five frames to three, you will be awarded six
league points (five points for the frames you won and one bonus point for winning).
The losing team is simple awarded the same amount of points as fames they won.
So in this example the losing team receives three league points. In the event of a
draw the teams get four points each.
Refereeing
We do not want to over complicate Reffing, after all it is meant to be a fun league. So
we have tried to make instruction for Reffing as simple as possible.

-The home team always refs first.

-The ref should always announce ' open table' before every shot, until a player has
legally selected his/her colour, after which the ref should announce "player on red"
or" player on yellow" depending on which group of balls the player has selected.

-When a foul shot occurs, the ref should announce the foul and remind the player
they have a free table, then after the first shot simple remind the player 'free table
has ended and they are only carrying  one shot'.

-When a foul has been committed and the player wishes to play the cue ball from
'bulk' the ref should pick up the cue ball and hand it to the player. At no time should
a player handle the cue ball unless the ref hands it to them. A cue ball that has been
potted is dead, so a player is permitted to pick it out of the tray .

- In the event of a touching ball, the ref should announce 'touching ball'. The ref
should also announce 'full ball' if the player is snookered.

Apart from that, hopefully  common sense should pro vale .  A full version of the
rules is available through a link at the bottom of this page!

General etiquette
Firstly, the pubs and clubs that host the matches are not just a nice warm places for
us to have a game in. They are trying to run a business, so when traveling to an
away venue, make an effort and try to buy one or two drinks. After all if it wasn't for
them we would have nowhere to play.
We do encourage supporting your fellow players, so cheering, clapping and light
hearted banter between teams is great, But please show a bit of order when a
player is down on a shot.
Coaching is not permitted. So if you have an opinion on a shot keep it to your self
until the frame is over.
Doubles players are permitted to discus shots and tactics, but again nobody else
should offer their advice.
Violent or threatening behavior will not be tolerated at any time during the matches.
Anybody found to be violent or threatening towards other players, members of staff
or other customers will be band from the league and reported to Pub Watch.
Pubwatch
The CBPL is a supporter
of the Cwmbran
Pubwatch scheme.
Anyone who is banned on
the Pubwatch scheme is
not permitted to play in the
league.
Any team found to be
playing people on
pubwatch will be removed
from the leage.
